Facing the US Embassy for International Students
The aspiring student is hesitant and nervous to face the embassy,
especially the US. The main reason people fail the Embassy interview is
nervousness. Relax if you make it and finally get a chance to study in the United
States at your dream university. The thing for many desi students is not education
but rather prestige and respect from family and friends. That has nothing to do
with education.
In some cases, standard education can be sought in one’s
home country. The thing is an attraction for Hollywood’s portrayal of America.
People think from the Indian subcontinent, especially Bangladesh once you step outside
the US Airport into the US, it’s filled with success’’. That is not the thing success
and confidence lie within the person. Nobody is going to spoon-feed you. You
have to respect yourself and be confident. If you fail the US embassy -student
Visa; it is not the end of the world. Relax.
So before going to the embassy relax and convince yourself
you might not get a visa for America. So what then? Really what does a person
do then?
Well, you can try again but if you fail…then think of other
options. “All roads read to Rome”.
Study Plan
Plan it first. Say Computer Science.
Well here are some things. You have to know good spoken English.
When you are walking to US Embassy you have the following:
·
TOEFL-80=90% marks
·
IELTS-similar.
·
You can speak Good English.
The target of the visa officers is not to fail but to see in
the long run. The following thing the officer looks for:
·
Study subject- Computer Science says. Great.
·
I-20 Form. You got a chance at the University.
If it is from UT Austin, consider the job is done and you would have a favorable
chance of getting the visa.
·
Funding. Do you have money (or your parents) to complete
the 4-year degree? Show the source.
·
12 years of Education or Higher Secondary. If you
have A Level that’s like a plus.
·
If you don’t then from Bengali Medium, you are
from Notre Dame, Dhaka College, or a similar college.
·
Your marks in Physics, Maths in A Level or Intermediate.
If they are not good then you have to explain how you are going to study
computer science then.
·
The salary do you expect to get when you come
back? Tell them about your plans such that you are sure what to do.
·
Finally what
do you plan to do after four years? You say that after four years you are
coming back and doing a business in computer science or doing a job at
University. Though the ROI does not seem convincing but it is a matter of prestige
and within a year or two my salary would increase.
At the end, the officer says “Come at 4 o clock”. Then you
know you have got the visa. It feels like a great victory.
