Parts of Speech are 8 in number. If you don’t understand them, don’t think you will be an expert in English skipping grammar.
Parts of speech:
1. Noun
2. Pronoun
3. Verbs
4. Adverbs
5. Adjectives
6. Conjunction
7. Preposition
8. Interjections.
Now each part has subdivisions. We talk about that later.
1. What is a Noun?
A Noun are names of things, places, animals, objects, etc. For example: tree, house, elephant, man, country. These are examples of common nouns.
There are two main categories of nouns:
• Common Noun
• Proper Nouns
2. Proper Nouns
Proper nouns when specific names are to people, places, animals or things, etc.
Tom
Here the first letter is capitalized and the letters in the word are small letters.
Examples of proper nouns:
• Tom, John, Khalid-names of persons
• United States, France, Brazil- country
• Name of cat.
3. Verb
A verb describes an action.
For example:
• Jump
• Swim
• Run
• Cut
5. Pronouns
Pronouns take the place of a noun, instead of the noun.
Example: Tom is a good man.
So we can replace Tom by a pronoun.
He is a good man.
4. Adverbs
To understand Adverbs, two parts. Ad and verbs Ad is actually called a prefix. It simply means a word that describes a verb.
Say the word swim, we see in a sentence:
Can you swim to cross the river?
There is no adjective in the above sentence.
Here is another sentence:
Can you swim fast to cross the river?
In this sentence verb swim is described. The word fast is an adverb.
